SUBJECT: Traffic Count - July 1987
1. During the week of 20 July, the FMD/Parking office
(assisted by Summer Only Employees) conducted a.m. and p.m.
traffic surveys at the Route 123, Route 193, and George
Washington Parkway Gates. The a.m. timeframe included 0600
to 0900 hours; the p.m. period consisted of 1530 to 1600
hours. The New Building Project office construction gate was
not included during this survey because of a low number of
vehicles reported during past surveys. The following charts
are attached for your review:

3. Summary and Observations:
a. There has been no significant change in statistics
over previous count. If any increase has occurred
it most likely has been offset by a high number of
employees on vacation leave.

SUBJECT: Traffic Count - July 1987
b. Departure rates remain significantly under arrivals
which indicates a high number of drop-offs in
the a.m. or that a high number of employees stay
late (beyond 1800). Departures are 80% of
arrivals.
c. The peak hour for heaviest traffic remains at
0715 - 0815 and 1630 - 1730.
d. Peak Hour (a.m.) traffic is 51% of 0600 - 0900
survey period traffic.
e. There has been a shift to increased use of the GWP
gate. Current usage is 25% over 1986. Route 123
is 29% less primarily due to construction in the
area.

f. Current traffic is at 95% of agreement.
g. Ridership remains at 1.2 persons per vehicle
h. Using current statistics, the FY 88 projected
increase in traffic at peak hours may amount
to 10% over agreement.
i. Using current statistics, the FY 89 projected
increase in traffic at peak hours may amount
to 45% over agreement.

spaces are used.
