Preferred Site for Relocation of the Map
Servipes Center
1. Representatives of this Agency and the General Services
Administration (GSA) looked at three additional sites for
possible relocation of Map Services Center (MSC) on 12 May 1987.
GSA was notified of the Office of Information Services (OIR)
decision to pursue relocation at one of those sites, and they
prepared a Solicitation for Offers which went out to the
following lessors on 20 May 1987:
2. The Real Estate and Construction Division (RECD/OL) has
received your memo confirming your preferred site tion
of the ASC and we concur with your decision on the ite.
We have forwarded written confirmation to GSA and a so re terated
our concerns over the possible closing of the
present site. In addition, we urged GSA to expedite the
relocation process to facilitate a move before the Thanksgiving
holiday to avoid the inherent problems with the Christmas
snopping at the Mall.
Immediately upon receiving blueprints from GSA on the
location, our personnel began preliminary drawings.
however, as we explained to members of your staff, we cannot
complete those drawings until we get a decision on the type of
furniture and placement from them. We urge you to get those
answers to us as soon as possible as this could affect the
ultimate move in date.

4. Please be advised that we are doing everything possible
to meet your requirements, and that the MSC relocation is RECD's
top priority. RECD is in daily contact with GSA on your behalf
and monitors GSA's actions. As we discuss the status of the
relocation almost daily with members of your staff, we will
continue to keep OIR informed of p o ress.
