1. (SWN) SIGNIFICANCE: THIS IS THE FIRST IDENTIFICATION OF
THIS MODIFIED HIND E ON SATELLITE IMAGERY AND THE FIRST
INDICATION THAT THE HELICOPTER MAY BE OPERATIONALLY DEPLOYED.
2. (SWN) REMARKS: AT LEAST SIX HIND E HELICOPTERS WITH
POSSIBLE TWIN-BARREL CANNONS F 1EP OT ON GRAPHIC) WERE AT
BRODY AIRFIELD NORTH THE HELICOPTERS WERE
PARKED ADJACENT TO A HELICOPTE ASSEMBLY AREA AT THE EAST
END OF THE AIRFIELD. THE OBSERVABLE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS
HIND E AND THE TYPICAL HIND E IS THE ABSENCE OF A
NOSE-MOUNTED FOUR-BARREL GATLING GUN AND THE PRESENCE OF A
TWIN-BARREL CANNON ON THE STARBOARD SIDE OF THE FUSELAGE.
THIS MODIFIED HIND E FIRST APPEARED IN OPEN-PRESS
PHOTOGRAPHS ACQUIRED DURING THE ZAPAD 1981 EXERCISE IN
SEPTEMBER 1981.
(SWN) BRODY AIRFIELD NORTH IS IN THE CARPATHIAN MILITARY
DISTRICT AND SERVES AS AN ASSEMBLY POINT FOR T-!FT.TCflPTPPc
USUALLY DESTINED FOR EASTERN EUROPE.
