Dan Webster and cochaired an interagency meeting on
Afghanistan, the outcome of which will be a tutorial for policymakers on what
the Intelligence Community can and cannot do during the withdrawal of Soviet

Larry Gershwin held a seminar on Soviet nuclear doctrine involving

Walter Barrows will accompany Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense James
Woods to meet with commanders and senior staff officers of the US Central and
Special Operations Commands on the military situations in Angola and
Mozambique. (NIO/Africa)
will discuss sanctions against South Africa at a meeting
sponsored by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. (A/NIO/Africa)
Marten van Heuven participated in a dinner meeting on "Gorbachev's European
Policy" at the School of Advanced International Studies, and with Prof. Kurt
Biedenkopf, participated in luncheon roundtables hosted by the Friedrich Ebert
Foundation and Spanish Ambassador Santamaria of the Johns Hopkin's School for
Advanced International Studies. (NIO/Europe)
Bill Kotapish attended a program review meeting at the El Paso Intelligence
Center (EPIC) as a member of the EPIC Advisory Board. (NIO/Narcotics)
