National Intelligence Topics (NITs) for FY 1989
1. Attached for your information and review are the FY 1989 NITs, which
will be considered at the SIG (I) meeting scheduled for 8 September 1988.
2. You will note that the AIDS pandemic has been elevated to a National
Intelligence Topic. This year, the NITs received working?level coordination
through a newly established NITs Working Group chaired by the IPC staff. The
Working Group was made up of representatives from the NSC, Department of
State, Treasury, Commerce and Energy as well as the JCS. We believe the FY
1989 NITs have benefitted from the coordination process and are better focused
and more rele'vant to the needs of senior policymakers.
