Induction into the Hall of Fame is a special honor which has been awarded to very few Oklahomans over the years. The ceremonies are rebroadcast on statewide television. As table hosts for Senator Boren, we have the privilege of inviting you to attend the Hall of Fame Banquet and be seated in his section. We know that it would mean a great deal to Senator Boren to be able to share the evening with special friends like you. The banquet will be held in the Myriad Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City. Dress for the occasion will be black-tie. Doors to the banquet hall will open at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served promptly. All of those attending the banquet will be invited to attend the after-party which takes place in the Great Hall of the Myriad immediately following the banquet. There you will have the opportunity to personally congratulate Senator Boren and the other honorees and to meet Senator Nunn and the other persons presenting the inductees. A brochure on the banquet, containing an order form for _ reservations, is enclosed for your convenience in ordering tickets. The size of the section reserved for Senator Boren is limited and reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The demand for reservations is great each year, and we strongly recommend that you make your reservations as early as possible. BOREN ED L. CALHOON, M.D. (Seminole) (Beaver) The senior United States Senator from Oklahoma, Boren served as Governor from 1975 to 1979 and was the first chief executive of the state to go directly from the governor's chair by election to the U.S. Senate. A Rhodes Scholar, he received his Masters Degree in government from Oxford University with honors. In 1976 he was named one of the ten Outstanding Young Men in America by the U.S. Jaycees. A highly regarded leader in the U.S. Senate, he has served on the Senate Finance Committee, Agriculture Committee, Committee on Small Business and Select Committee on Intelligence. In 1979, he was listed by Time magazine as one of fifty promising young leaders in America. The Honorable Sam Nunn United States Senator from Georgia will give the citation. KAY STARR (Dougherty/Los Angeles, California) One of the superstars in the history of country and big band music, Miss Starr learned to sing by listening to the radio. She eventually sang with the Grand Ole Opry,'with Bob Willis and The Texas Playboys and with a number of big bands, including the Glenn Miller Orchestra. She then launched her solo career, producing numerous top ten recordings, including "Wheel of Fortune", "I'm the Lonesomest Girl in Town", "Angry", "Bonapart's Retreat" and "Rock and Roll Waltz". She has given numerous benefit performances and continues to perform regularly to rave reviews throughout the United States and overseas. During the 1985 Hall of Fame Banquet she was recognized as Oklahoma Ambassador of Goodwill. Jim Nabors a highly popular and accomplished entertainer from Honolulu, Hawaii will give the citation. 1988 OKLAHOMA HALL OF FAME WRITE NOW ... for your reservations A nationally prominent physician, Dr. Calhoon presently serves on the National Cancer Advisory Board, and he has served on the American Medical Association's Council on Rural Health and Council on Legislation. He has also served the state of Oklahoma and his profession in a wide range of capacities, for which he has received numerous recognitions. Among them has been the A.H. Robbins Community Service Award, given yearly to the outstanding Oklahoma medical practitioner and the Oklahoma Physician of the Year Award in 1984, given by the Oklahoma University Health Science Center. Davis, M.D. President of the American Medical Association from Durham, North Carolina will give the citation. PATRICIA WHEELER (Tulsa) A remarkable business person, civic leader and athlete, Mrs. Wheeler is Chairman of the Board of Certified Appliance Distributors, Inc. of Irwindale, California, and Chairman of the Board of Phoenix Resources, Inc. of Tulsa. A successful marathon runner, she also has climbed Mt. Kilamanjaro in Africa. A highly respected civic volunteer, she has served in leadership positions for a wide range of organizations in the areas of health care, and the visual and performing arts. The institutions she has served or continues to serve are Children's Medical Center, The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, Donna Nigh Foundation, Tulsa Philharmonic, Tulsa-Ballet, Tulsa Performing Arts Center, Gilcrease Museum and many others. WILLIAMS (Tulsa) A prominent business and civic leader, Mr. Williams is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Williams Companies. Under his direction, The Williams Companies has become a leader in gas and liquid pipeline systems and, more recently has developed a national network of fiber optic telecommunications. Among his current business and civic activities is his service as a director of American Express Company, American Petroleum Institute and the National Audubon Society. Williams also is on the Board of Governors of the Nature Conservancy and is a member of thetum -il on Foreign Relations and the National Petroleum Council, among others. A. Bartlett Giamatti ... Presently the head of A.T. Stair Associates, he is a pioneer in two major technologies: Fourier Transform Spectroscopy and Totally Cryogenic Intrared Sensors for Laboratory, Rocket and Space Use. Until recently he headed the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. His research is highly significant for the surveillance, acquisition and tracking mission of the nation's Strategic Defense Initiative for Ballistic Missle Defense. Among his honors and recognitions are the Air Force Scientific Achievement Award and the Air Force Geophysics Lab Guenter Loeser Award. Lt. YOUNG (Oklahoma City) A highly active business and civic leader, Mr. Young is President of Young Companies. He has served in a wide range of volunteer civic, community and public service positions. Among them was service under four different presidents on the National Business Advisory Council for Economic Opportunity. He has also been an exceptionally active volunteer in health care. His service has been recognized with the Oklahoma Medical Society Outstanding Layman Award in 1980 and the Dean's Award for Distinguished Medical aid Community Service at the URiversity.of Oklahoma in 1986.
