RE: Speaking Invitation
FBI National Academy Associates

Clarion Hotel
St. Louis, Missouri
Monday, 11 July
General Chairman of the Planning Committee of the FBI National Academy
Associates, Colonel James J. Hackett, has invited you to attend the opening
ceremony of the organization's annual training conference on 11 July and make
brief opening remarks. The ceremony is scheduled from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.
Former FBI Director Clarence Kelley and Missouri Governor John Ashcroft. have
also been asked to participate on the platform committee; neither, has
confirmed his attendance. The audience will consist of approximately 1,000
local, state, and federal law enforcement leaders from across the country.
The event is open to the media, and television and newspaper journalists from
the St. Louis area are expected to attend. The organization has also sent a
separate request for your photograph and a letter of welcome to be published
in the program booklet whether or not you attend.
FBI National Academy Associates has also invited you to attend its
banquet, which will be held on 12 July from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. at the Clarion
Hotel. Judge William Sessions is scheduled to attend this event as well as
speak sometime during the conference.
Since you plan to speak at the Eighth Circuit Judicial Conference on
July 15th in St. Louis, I recommend that you decline this invitation, but
send a welcoming letter and your photograph for publication in their
program. I have attached both the "letter of welcome" and a letter declining
the speaking invitation for your signature.

Dear Conference Members:
It is a pleasure to welcome all of you to my native St. Louis to
participate in the FBI National Academy Associates Annual Training
Conference. I have always had great regard for the National Academy
Associates and their retraining program.
I believe that the retraining sessions are most important in keeping up
with modern day approaches to law enforcement. Your theme of
"Fitness-Nutrition-Good Health" is indeed a great formula for success in your
profession and an appropriate one for your conference. I hope you have a
most rewarding four days.
Sincerely yours,
M Who H.
