Senator Rudy Boschwitz
United States Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Boschwitz:
I recently encountered the enclosed story regarding the CIA project to expand
their headquarters and to acquire an art collection.
The Hadley Companies specialize in publishing and the sale of fine limited
edition art prints with American nature and environmental scenes and western
cultural history.
Our company has never attempted to do business with any aspect of the federal
government and I am writing to ask your assistance in introducing our company's
capabilities to the CIA in regard to this art project. Would you please
supply me with the name of the correct person to contact at the GSA or CIA
so that I may make a presentation regarding our products.
For your information, all our products are made in Minnesota to the highest
quality standards. They are fine collectibles with a wildlife or western
theme. You may be familar with our retail branch, The Wooden Bird Galleries,
in many malls in the Minneapolis area.
I am enclosing some introductory literature and information which I believe
accurately reflects the capabilities of our company. I appreciate any assistance
you can give me with this project.
Sincerely,
Bradford Shinkle IV

The CIA is expanding its head-
quarters in Langley. Va., and.
like many civic-minded build-
ers. will dedicate one-half of
1% of its construction costs to
works of art. Since ordinary
taxpayers are not allowed into
the intelligence agency's head-
quarters, none of them will
ever see the CIA art. The
amount of money involved is
similarly secret, because that
would reveal the extent of the
construction plans. But the CIA
wants to make sure that no bad
choices are made. So it has
asked the General Servi
Administration to select
The ever carefu
turned to the National E
ment for the Arts, and the A
duly selected half a dozen can-
didates. As for what the CIA
actually wanted of them, the
agency proposed these specifi-
cations: -This art should re-
flect life in all its positive as-
pects (e.g., truth, justice,
courage, liberty. etc.). It should
engender feelings of well-be-
ing, hope, promise and such. It
should not produce or reflect
negative attitudes, political ex-
pressions, or feelings of futility.
The art should respect sensitiv-
ities against sexual, sexist,
race, ethnic or other related
slurs. .. It should be forceful in
style and manner; and be
breathtaking in its beauty."

A Collection of Christmas Memories

"Together for the Season"
$70
The joyful anticipation of rejoining family and frie
for the holidays is captured in Terry Redlin's th
annual Christmas print, "Together for the Season". It is
an earlier time in rural America, when sleigh bells sig-
naled the arrival of welcome guests, who brought with
them the memories and traditions of other holidays
celebrated together. This new release reiterates this
master artist's appreciation for the holiday spirit as

demonstrated in "The Sharing Season" and "Sharing Sea-
son II", which have continued to attract enthusiastic
collector interest over the past two years.
"Together for the Season" contributes yet another
perspective on sharing, reminding us that while time
may pass and modes of transportation change, the sin-
gular warmth of being home for the holidays transcend
the decades.
