WASHINGTON, D.C. 20006 202-822-8138 14 January 1987 Dear Friend: The Federalist Society will hold its annual lawyers convention at the Mayflower Hotel, 1127 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. We would like to encourage you to attend. The topic of the convention will be "Changing the Law: The Role of Lawyers, Judges and Legislators." Participants will. include many of the brightest legal minds of our day and the structure of the convention is designed to provide ample time for questions and answers following the panel presentations. We will be hosting receptions to honor present and former public servants who have made significant contributions to the principles of limited constitutional government, individual freedom, traditional values and the rule of law. The enclosed brochure outlines the planned convention activities. In addition to the panels listed in the brochure, we will have a second constitutional panel on "The Open-Ended Clauses of the Constitution: Due Process, Privileges or Immunities, the Guaranty Clause, and the Ninth Amendment." In addition to Attorney General Edwin Meese, Justice Antonin Scalia, Judge Robert Bork, Senator Orrin Hatch and the other distinguished speakers listed in the brochure, participants will include Deputy Attorney General Arnold Burns, Thomas Sowell of the Hoover Institute, Michael Horowitz, formerly General Counsel of OMB, columnist Tom Wicker, Professor Laurence Tribe of Harvard, and Professor Bruce Ackerman of Columbia. Assistant Attorney General Wt... Bradford Reynolds will he the convention chairman. The Federalist Society has discounted the registration fee for government employees to $20 -- 50% less than the registration fee charged to the general public.
