Briefing Requests
1. Senate Appropriations Committee Defense Subcommittee
staffer Ed Swoboda today requested briefings on Afghanistan
and Central America in early January 1985.
2. Regarding Afghanistan, Swoboda wants a briefing
on I suggest we bring Swoboda to
Headquarters for this briefing. It could be accomplished by
an NE body at the level of C NE if
satisfactory to C/NE Swo o a s superior, minority
staff director Frank Su ivan, recently returned from India
and Pakistan having been part of the Nunn CODEL so it is not
likely that Sullivan will ask to be included in this briefing.

3. Regarding Central America, Swoboda initially asked
updates from the biweekly
briefing but I pointed out that 25X1

to SAC. Swoboda is willing to settle, insteaa, tor a general
update briefing on Central America by the DDI. OLL/LD/SL
will arrange time and place. Coordination with DDO/EPS
should be effected to attempt to schedule Afghanistan and
Central America briefings the same day.
4. Swoboda's majority counterpart Susan Shekmar is on
maternity leave until 2 February 1985 and will not be
available to participate in these briefings.
