Several members of the committee have requested that the Central
Intelligence Agency present a briefing on the subject of Soviet Anti-Ballistic
Missile activities and their potential breakout capability.
The committee is seeking your agency's most current and complete assessment
of Soviet ABM development, including information on Soviet research and development
on directed energy weapons with potential ABM application. The committee members
have specifically requested that the briefing be provided by Mr. Larry Gershwin,
National Intelligence Officer for Strategic Programs.
Although it is my hope that the briefing can be scheduled in the weeks
prior to the July District Work Period, the conference on the fiscal year
1985 Defense authorization bill is pending and your forebearance will be
appreciated in arranging a convenient time.
I would appreciate it if you would contact the committee staff director,
Mr. G. Kim Wincup, about the appropriate details.
