NOTE FOR: The Acting Director
FROM: Dave Grie
I have drafted a proposed response to Senator Helms'
letter and sent it to John Hotis at the FBI. Bill Baker is
out of town. See copy attached.
I have also asked for a review of compliance with the
Helms amendments. The response is attached, and it looks
quite good.
STAT
During a telephone conversation this morning, Dave
Sullivan said that he did not expect Senator Helms to raise
serious objection to Judge Webster's nomination. However, he
did advise a courtesy call, and I passed his suggestion on to
Ron Sable, who advises they have been waiting for an
appointment for some time. Sullivan told me to expect a
letter on Q one of the items mentioned in the Helms STAT
amendments.
I have alerted Sven Holmes to these developments.
