STAT ~ Declassified in Part -Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/05/04 :CIA-RDP90-009658000604920016-7 AR'~iCIE APPEARED ON P 29 April 1987 Williams, Gregory are .arrested at CIA J~"By=Frank Perley~,~~ ~~THE-WASHINGTON TIMES lp Diet specialist Dick Gregory and --~ .civil rights actit~ Wil_ liams were arres`f~2!' outside CIA headquarters in McLean late yester- day morning and charged with tres- passing, Fairfax County police said. The incident came one day after 561 demonstrators were arrested for blocking entrances to the agency in protest of American policies in Cen- tral America and South Africa. Mr. Gregory, 54, and Mr. Williams, 61, positioned themselves on a traf- fic island in the road leading to the CIA's main gate about 11 a.m., said county police spokeswoman Judy Dailey. Agency security officers asked them to leave, and when they re- fused, county police arrested them. They declined to accept summonses and were transported without inci- dent to the county's Adult Detention Center, Officer Dailey said. A county magistrate released them on $500 bond each. Mr. Wil- liams is scheduled for trial June 9, and Mr. Gregory's trial is set for July 2. Meanwhile, 91 demonstrators who were arrested at CIA headquar- ters Monday and charged with ob- struction of free passage were ar- raigned yesterday in Fairfax County General District Court. All but nine were released on personal recogni- zance orbonds ranging from $500 to $1,000, with non-jury trial dates scattered from May to July. Among them was David Dellin- ger, one of the original Chicago 7. Mr. Dellinger was released yester- day on personal recognizance and is scheduled for a trial June 25, said Fairfax County Commonwealth's At- torney Robert F. Horan. Of the nine still in jail, seven - four men and three women -were denied bond because they refused to give authorities their names. 'IWo other women gave their names but were not released after they refused to sign court documents: None of them is a celebrity, said county Sher- iff M. Wayne Huggins. The demonstrators who refused to cooperate were ordered held be- hind bars until their trial date, Mr. Horan said. In all, 80 protesters were held overnight for refusing to give their names or failing to post bond, Mr. Huggins said. Former Catholic priest and anti-war activist Philip Berrigan, also arrested, posted bond Monday, Mr. Huggins said. Maximum penalty for obstruction of free passage, a misdemeanor, is a year in jail and a $1,000 fine, Mr. Horan said.
