The article stresses that on the basis of these "admissions" of the terrorist, who is now in prison, arrested a month ago without any official charges against him was Bulgarian citizen Antonov, employee of the representation of the Bulgarian air company Balkan in Rome. His arrest was a suitable external pretext for launching two slander versions: Antonov is an accomplice in the attempt on the life of the pope which was allegedly arranged with "Bulgaria's knowledge," terrorism, which literally flooded Italy and a number of other Western countries with blood is not at all an internal creation of those states, but it is imported from outside, from socialist countries. IZVES',lYA notes that most over-free are Italian press organs, controlled by right-wing socialists, Social Democrats, liberals. These are being emulated by media in the United States, Turkey, Britain, France, FRG, other West European countries. "In the Soviet press it was already repeatedly noted that the provocaLive hullabaloo around that, insinuations concerning Bulgaria's and the USSR's alleged 'complicity' in the attempt on the life of the head of the Roman Catholic Church is pure fabrication, which is absolutely unfounded. It is aimed at worsening relations between Italy and socialist countries, sets the aim to cast thse relations back to 'cold war' times. It should be remembered that it is not difficult to reduce to zero everything positive which exists now in these relations if this tendentious campaign is not stopped without delay. From history it is known that relations between states can easily be spoiled, but it takes many years to restore good and mutually-beneficial cooperation. 'Coals' of 'Campaign' LD300008 "cow TASS in English 2307 GMT 29 Dec 81R ["Slanderers at Work" -- TASS headline] [Text) Moscow December 30 TASS -- The CIA and special services allying with it pursue several goals in an attempt to breathe new life into the White House's slackening drive to "fight international terrorism", writes the newspaper PRAVDA, exposing the slanderous campaign launched in the West in connection with the assassination attempt on the pope. Firstly, that campaign is an attempt -- by stirring up fears around "international terrorism", "controlled by the Communists" and "exported" to West European countries -- at covering up real terrorism practised by the United States itself and by its clients, the kind of Israel and E1 Salvador, against whole peoples such as, for example, the Arab people of Palestine, and against national-liberation movements. Secondly, the new slanderous campaign is a large-scale provocation against the People's Republic of Bulgaria and pursues the aim of casting aspersions on the peaceful policy of socialist countries, including that of the Soviet Union, and thereby to justify the drawing of Italy and other West European countries into the Pentagon's rearmament plans aimed at preparing for a nuclear war. The search for an "outside enemy" and allusions to a "communist threat" is nothing new in the political life of Italy where the forces of reaction, including those of neo- fascism, are still rather influential. On the wave of hysteria which is being stirred up now, they would like to get the left-wing forces off to a political demise, which was, in particular, one of the main aims of the kidnapping and murder of Aldo Moro in 1978, the murder which, as the Italian press itself admitted, was committed not without participation of U.S. special services. At the same time NATO's "brain-washing" experts try to cast aspersions on the anti-war movement and on the country's progressive forces which come out against deployment of new U.S. nuclear missiles on Italian soil.
