CLAS
OVERVIEW
The Commercial Logistics Applications System is a successor to
the LIMS (Logistics Integrated Management System) project ?that was
redirected in mid 1985. In contrast to LIMS, which was planned to
be designed and built to Agency specifications, CLAS is based upon
commercial packages developed and maintained by Management Science
America, Inc. (MSA). The system is part of the OIT corporate data
base concept and would eventually replace ICS (Inventory Control
System) and CONIF (Contract Information System). It is a joint
project of Logistics, Finance, and Information Technology with the
deputy chief of OL/IMSS serving as the project leader and contract
manager.
The project is being developed under a combined prototyping-
incremental approach and is divided into several different phases.
There are five different teams working on CLAS (Inventory,
Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Data Exploitation and Technical).
Key Personnel:
DC/IMSS/OL
AC/CSDD/OIT

ISAD ROLE
ISAD began to monitor the project in January 1986 and has
STAT continued to track the project to date. has attended most
of the interim assessment sessions and has visited the test facility
at TRW where the MSA packages are being tested under IDMS/R which
OIT has selected as the DBMS for the Agency's corporate data base.
Some preliminary discussions have been held with MSA concerning the
audit features of the modules being evaluated but no audit tests
have been conducted.
