1. The demand for the TCO CRAFT System Administration (SA)
course increased to the point that three SA courses have been
added to the schedule during 1987 with the possibility that more
courses may have to be scheduled. At least one additional
instructor will be assigned to the CRAFT operations section to
support this increased requirement.
25X1 3. AMD welcomes who is currently serving
as the Acting Career Management Officer for Panel N.
4. The Communications School has loaned PAG an IBM PC so
that all interested personnel may use the Federal Employees
Retirement System (FERS) software to assist in making decisions
25X1 concerning the new retirement system. The PC is located in
25X1 It will be set up each morning,
and personnel are invited to come and use the software at their
convenience. Please have the following basic information at your

current and entry level grade, step, and salary; sick leave
balance; periods of service covered by Social Security, i.e.,
number of quarters and total earnings. The current FERS software
is not the final version and, when a final is available, copies
will be made and distributed, as needed.
5. The PSD Questionnaire on Banding, Phase Three, has been
disseminated worldwide. Those responding should be sure to
address their comments to OMS-PSD, EYES ONLY.
6. On 1 December the Office of Information Services (OIS)
announced the dissolution of OIS and reorganization of its
components within the DA. The records mana?ement functions, to
25X1 include the archives and records center the Information
and Records Management Division, the regis ries, and the Records
Management Officers will be taken over and supervised as a part
of OIT. The Classification Review Division, the Information and
Privacy Division, and the Regulations Policy Division will become
part of the DDA Staff. These changes are to be implemented in
January 1987.

3. On 2 December, representatives of CSD attended a
demonstration and briefing at Inference Corporation (IC),
Rockville, Maryland. The briefing addressed IC's capabilities
and background in Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems.
Demonstrated were: graphics, programming and other user func-
tions, and inference (reasoning) capabilities of the company's
software product, Artificial Intelligence Reasoning Tool (ART).
ART's functions and capabilities will be considered in light of
CSD's plan to develop Expert System applications in the areas of
Security Fault Analysis and Threat and Vulnerability Analysis.

1. Diagnostics testing on the MERCURY Packet Switch and PAD
25X1 hardware was successfully completed during this
reporting period. As soon as the government-provided intersite
trunks are available. downline loading of software and the test
25X1 database and Headquarters will take
place.
2. The Engineerin Develo ment Branch of SEG is developing
25X1 an installation guide to install LINK/1 multiplexers
for their R-Site to T- i e circuit. The system is to be
installed either late December 1986 or early January 1987.

2. This reporting period was a busy time for the Message
Switch Programming Staff and Field Engineers. Thirty-three
circuits were rehomed to the new SPARS-IV message switch during
the past week. Those remaining in the aged MAX-III switch,

eleven trunk circuits, and twenty-seven field station circuits.
Preparations are now underway to remove and/or relocate addi-
tional MAX-III peripherals to create floor space required for
installation of the final switch, designated SPARS-III. Hardware
for this switch was picked up from the vendor on 5 December and
installation will begin 8 December.
