MEMBERS OF THE NIC FAMILY
Patty and I both wish to thank you for your strong support
and warm friendship over the past year. Special thanks are due
for your special send off as we get ready to depart for a still
unannounced but well known assignment within the Intelligence
Community. We all knew it was coming for some time, but delays
in announcing the moves on which mine depended made what already
seemed too-short of a time even shorter.
Thank you all for the kind words, for the signed picture,
which will hang in a place of honor, and for the Chairman's Daily
Brief, which truly captured the spirit of the place. Spirit is
what you all have in abundance--an independent spirit working for
a common cause with uncommon capability, integrity, and
dedication. Your reputation and your impact throughout the
intelligence and policy communities attest to the excellence of
your efforts.
I have compared the Chairman, NIC, position to that of dean
of faculty with all that goes with that analogy. You have made
my tenure in this position very special; every member in every
position has helped to make this "faculty" the best I have seen
anywhere. Patty and I wish you and yours all the best as we go
off into a new adventure, in which we will still have the
opportunity to work closely together. I am pleased that this
will be the case, and look forward to the continued association.
