I request permission to appear before a non-government group as provided for in 2. When approved, I will speak at the SHARE 68 Conference in San Francisco, California, during the week of 2 March 1987. I will be attending the conference as a representative of the Agency. The audience is expected to be comprised of up to 300 persons from the United States and Canada representing organizations running large IBM computers. The meeting will be held in the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway; the risk to employee safety is minimal. Members of the press are barred from attending sessions at the conference. 3. None of my remarks will be classified or controversial. I will speak at the following session: a. VM Performance Consideration for New Users. A panel of experienced analysts and maintainers from different installations will explain methods for improving the usability of a VM system. b. VM/SP HPO 3.6 vs. 4.2 Paging Analysis. This talk describes the results of a series of tests designed to compare the performance of VM/SP High Performance Option 3.6 and 4.2 on large IBM computers computers with expanded storage. 4. In my capacity as Chairman of the VM Capacity Management Committee, I will chair the following sessions: a. Capacity Management Committee Planning Session b. Capacity Management Committee Working Session c. VM Capacity Management Free-for-All. Members of the VM Capacity Management Committee and IBM performance experts will try to provide answers to users' questions about VM performance and capacity issues. d. VM Workload Characterization. Different VM workloads make different resource demands on the I/O, paging and processor systems. Barton Robinson of IBM will discuss resource requirements, including specifics of CMS intensive, PROFS intensive, and SQL/DS intensive workloads. 6. The Agency's VM/CMS computer system is among the largest in the world. It is through the visibility we enjoy in organizations, such as SHARE, that we are able to attract skilled computer professionals to the Agency. By sharing and exchanging ideas with industry-wide colleagues, we are able to influence the decisions of the computer vendors upon whom we are dependent. 7.
