Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/01/04: CIA-RDP89BO133OR000500820006-7 The Director of Central Intelligence Washington, D.C 20505 Critical Intelligence Problems Committee MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence VIA: Deputy Director of Central Intelligence Director, Intelligence Community Staff SUBJECT: Interim Report on NFIP Support to Contingency Operations 1. Attached for your information is an interim report on NFIP Support to Contingent This report was prepared by the CIPC working arouo chaired by DIA's Assistant Deputy Director for Research. 2. The working group, meeting since late April, has examined a variety of intelligence issues associated with supporting U.S. military contingency operations and has reached some preliminary but important findings. Because of the diversity and complexity of many of those issues, the working group will not complete its effort before September. In light of the considerable interest expressed earlier on the subject, the CIPC decided that it would be most appropriate at this time to issue an interim report highlighting the key issues and indicating the direction in which the group is moving in developing solutions to this problem. 3. Generally, the working group found that the manner in which the national Intelligence Community supports contingency operations works, and, at times, it works very well. This is in part due t the willingness of the Community to learn from the lessons of the past. 4. The working group is presently developing specific recommendations for dealing with the shortfalls identified in the interim report, and others as appropriate. The CIPC expects the working group to complete its study next DCI/ICS 86-3777 15 AUG 1986 month.
