CIPC Organizational Activities
o Jim has been out with the flu for the past two days.
o OT&E, is scheduled to report on 8 September for a four
month tour,
will release her in one-three weeks.
o I talked to D/FBIS on 2 September regarding) I He reported
that she "is very capable and a quality employee and we didn't go wrong"
in selecting her. Pending your concurrence i selection, FBIS
In gist, he said
o The China Follow-up Report has been approved by Bob Gates. It is being
prepared for the print shop and subsequent distribution to the NFIC
principals, and others as appropriate.

NFIP Support for Contingency Operations
and Paul continue to work on the final report. A strawman
should be ready for distribution to the working group members by 5
September. A working group meeting to discuss the strawman has been
scheduled for 12 September 1986. In addition, a small amount of travel by
the working group to selected commands and military units is planned.

? Drafting of a strawman version of the SDI study continues. About 50 pages
of text and appendices, mostly dealing with collection, policy, and
support to SDIO has been completed for Carlos' review. Subsequently, a
firm date for a working group meeting to review the strawman will be
established. In the meantime, Carlos has met with the Energy member of
the working group to consider what compartmented information we may need
from DOE. Rich has asked the DIA member to expedite his meeting with DoD
principals for their input to the study.
? Carlos believes he has largely extricated himself from his OSWR
administrative responsibilities and will be able to devote much more of
Intelligence Support to SDI -
worked on the CSEM software over the weekend, however, minor
interface problems precluded completion of the software development.
These problems should be resolved soon, and we can begin running
illustrative management reports for your review.
