SUBJECT: National Intelligence Topics (NITs)
1. Action Requested: You~ture on the attached memorandum requesting
inputs for the FY 1985 NITs.
2. Background: At the 10 August 1983 SIG(I) Committee meeting, principals in
attendance approved a schedule of NIT-associated actions for the next fiscal year. One
of the approved actions was the issuance of an early call for inputs to new NITs that
would be disseminated in July 1984. To initiate that call, the IPC Staff prepared the
attached memorandum that requests Committee principals to provide questions for the
FY 1985 NITs and specifies the format for submitting their inputs. As a backdrop for the
formulation of the new NITs, the attached also provides the principals some Intelligence
Communiv_or_oi~ ons of world events and issues that could impact on US national
interests.
3. Recommendation: That you approve for dissemination the attached
memorandum to SIG I) Committee principals.
