1. Approval is requested to incur expenses
2.. I believe that expenditure of appropriate funds is
authorized to underwrite the cost of a
two-and-a-half-day (27-29 April) conference on US Intelligence:
The Organization and the Profession to be held by the Center
for the Study of Intelligence (CSI) of the Office of Training
and Education and involve as many as 40 American college and
university professors who teach regular courses in Intelligence
and/or National Security issues. The Center seeks, as it has
in the past, to stimulate the teaching of such courses and both
to enrich their substantive content and encourage those who
teach them to look favorably on the prospect of careers in ,
Intelligence for the "best and the brightest" of their
students. In this latter regard, the Center seeks to further
the interests of the Office of Personnel, whose assistance it
has sought in deciding whom to invite to the conference.
3. Forty-five prospective attendees have been invited. As
of this date., it appears likely that somewhere between 30 and
35 will accept. The funds we seek to expend will
be used to fund (a) the cost of a cocktail party/reception the
night of 27 April to be attended by conferees and Agency
officers, and to be hosted by the DCI; (b) and to fund a dinner
the night of 28 April for the conferees and approximately 10
Agency officers and to be hosted by the DDCI.

4. I am attaching a list of those college and university
professors who have been invited, indicating those who have
accepted or declined as of this date.
5. I certify that the attendance of these individuals has
been requested and is considered essential to the conduct of
official Government business and further that the conference
will facilitate the accomplishment of the DCI's duties and
responsibilities.
6. The estimated cost of the cocktail party/reception is
$470.00 and the estimated cost of the dinner is $480.00.
