DCI/DDCI Assigned Tasks
EURA drafted talking points for the Director to use with
Adm. Poindexter on the impact of the execution of British
hostages in Lebanon
In addition to the talking points prepared last week for the
DCI's trip, ALA is preparing a similar package
ACIS has completed support for a NSPG meeting on RSVP for
the DCI.
Policy Support
OGI analysts in the Counterterrorism Center together with
analysts from NESA, SOVA and EURA produced a non-stop flow of
talking points, policy support papers, unclassified analyses and
articles for our various publications on the Libyan situation.
EURA drafted a typescript describing the Italian
telecommunications industry and the policy of the Italian
government toward deregulation for Commerce DAS Debakey who will
soon begin talks with Rome.
An OGI analyst in CTC briefed Billy Vincent, Director of FAA
Civil Aviation Security, and several other FAA officers on the 15
May radical Palestinian group and the continuing threat posed by
that group to civil aviation.

001 analysts briefed the Assistant Administrator at DEA for
Latin America and the Caribbean on the narcotics situation in the
Caribbean and South America.
OGI met with LTC Dick Schaden of US SOUTHCOM to discuss
SOUTHCOM's coverage of Latin America insurgencies and the
continuation of Insurgency Branch's workshops for SOUTHCOM.
OGI analysts met with Dr. Saul Gefter, Director of USIA's
Afghan Media Project, to discuss aspects of the Afghan insurgency
and the role of propaganda in modern insurgent movements.
Stephen Rinesmith of USIA was briefed by SOVA on the
possible Soviet intelligence threat in the US-Soviet cultural
exchange program.
A SOVA officer met with Admiral Hill, officer in charge of
US attack submarine operations, to discuss Soviet naval forces
and operations.
Several SOVA analysts participated in a Soviet Threat
briefin
NESA prepared talking points for C/NE/DO on Syria's internal
politics and Syria's support for terrorism in the wake of the US-
Libyan confrontation.
OEA met with Commerce and USTR to discuss South Korea-US
trade issues.
ALA briefed Clint Lauderdale, US Ambassador to Guyana.
ALA briefed the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary
of State for Africa on South African issues.

Several SOVA officers participated in a conference sponsored
by RAND and Columbia University on "The 27th CPSU Congress" at
Airlie House.
OEA hosted a conference with several senior scholars as
participants on the role of ideology in contemporary China.
OSWR held a symposium at the Chamber of Commerce building on
analysis and collection technology associated with two sensitive
technical collection programs. Members of the US nuclear weapons
labs, OTS, CRES, and DoE participated in the presentations and
discussions.
Briefings on the Hill
There were 10 briefings on the Hill this past week.
OGI analysts in CTC, NIO/CT, and a NESA analyst briefed
House Armed Services Committee staffers on Middle East terrorism
and SSCI staffer on the terrorist warning process, Libyan support
for terrorism, and culpability for the bombing of TWA flight 840.
OEA answered questions from the House Subcommittee on Asian
and Pacific Affairs on Chinese acquisition of F-8 avoinics.

OEA and NIO/EA testified before the House Subcommittee on
Asian and Pacific Affairs on the Sino-Soviet military balance and
the proposed sale of US avoinics to China.
SOVA and OSWR debriefed Spencer Oliver, Chief Council for
the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on 14 April who
accompanied Dante Fascell (D-FL) and William Broomfield (R-MI) to
the Soviet Union where they met with the General Secretary,
Gorbachev.
