Description of Programs
o Connects computers to new Headquarters building data network
o Provides automated network control
o Creates new workstation based on personal computers (PCs)
Benefits of Program
o Combines word processing and data processing into single workstation
o Allows users of SAFE and other systems to use effectively the new,
high-performance data network currently being installed in both the new
and old Headquarters buildings
o Combines additional capacity with automated network control
o Permits use of much mainframe software built for modern terminals
o Provides users with an independent capability for word processing,
creation of spread sheets, and other PC functions
o Provides users with the capability for business graphics, color, high
resolution graphics for imagery, and other features
Status of Program and Other Issues
o Evaluation of user requirements for a new workstation is underway
o Long lead time items have been started, including:
-- Software needed to use new workstation with existing mainframe software
-- Evaluation of hardware vendors and products
-- Preparation of RFP for a Systems Integration contractor
