SUBJECT: Briefing for President re Soviet Strategic Capabilities
At our Thursday meeting with John Poindexter, he agreed to schedule
at one of his 9:30 meetings with the President (probably Tuesday, 8 April,
but that needs to be firmed up) an opportunity for Larry Gershwin to brief
the President on our future estimates on the emergence of new Soviet strategic
capabilities. John thinks the President should have this fully, clearly, and
firstly in mind when he makes his decision on SALT II. He suggested a
presentation that would be built around two or three charts. Will you get
this together so that we can take a quick look at it on Tuesday when I
return.
