SUBJECT: Communications to Support CAMS II (P/S) Training
1. OICE has recently completed a survey of COMIREX (staff and
community) users of the CAMS system requiring training in order to
transition to the CAMS II Processing Segment (P/S) in May 1984. The
results of this survey revealed that more than twice as many users will
require training on the new system as current resources, classroom spaces,
terminals, communication lines, and instructors can accommodate.
2. A number of actions are in progress to help alleviate this
situation. Chief among these is the OT&E initiative to expand and upgrade
the communications capacity of the Chamber of Commerce (CoC) building where
classrooms are located and CAMS II (P/S) training will be conducted.
Completion of the communications protect is key to meeting the CAMS II
(P/S) requirement for training that has been expressed by the COTIIREX
users. All of the alternatives that begin to satisfy the requirement will
require additional CAMS lines and terminals. Availability of the lines is
completely dependent upon expansion of the communications facility at CoC.
3. In light of this situation, I request your active support in
assuring the completion of the CoC building communications upgrade project
by no later than the fall of 1983. Any slippage of the upgrade schedule
past this point will have a serious adverse impact on our ability to train
a sufficient number of users to effectively use the new CAMS system.
