In the 4-page preface (pp 6-10), Ono attempts to remind the readers
that the three-letter abbreviation, CIA, is a well-known brutal, treacher-
ous and tricky spy organ feared not only by the Japanese but by the people
of the world as well, supporting; this contention by branding CIA as the
"dark shadow" behind the Kaji case, US aggression in Cuba, U-2 incident,
assassination attempt on dcGaul.le, coup d'etat in Guatemala, Laos, Iran,
etc. Vietnam war, Pueblo incident, etc. For the Japanese people, he
stresses, one of the most pressing tasks in connection with the pending;
agreement on the return of Okinawa is to ensure complete removal of CIA,
the organ operating the VOA, strategic force, and aerial reconnaissance
force, etc., from the island of Okinawa.
Ono briefly discusses the post-World War II developments that led to
the establishment of the CIA in 1947 as an organ to cope with the cold war
and its subsequent development as the supreme headquarters engaged,
short of openly declared war, in subversive, destructive, and political
activities throughout the world, lie reports that CIA has been involved in
soliciting the cooperation of peoples of all walks of life -- financiers,
politicians, bureaucrats, military personnel, police, members of rightist
and terrorist organizations, etc -- throughout the world via bribery and
threat, and that Matsumoto, the author, was one of those who became deelp.y
enmeshed in the network of this notorious organ, to diligently and blindl
carry out his assigned tasks despite the fact that instructions given were
never accompanied by explanation. Ono goes on to say, "The fascination
of this book lies in the 'truth and experience' so clearly related by the
author. Readers are sure to shudder at and will, be angered by some of the
stories told, but the point to note is that this book clearly depicts the
