CIA blamed far Peace Corps WO-9s
IVASHINGTON-Sen. Frank Church ID., Idaho] Friday
blamed covert Central Intelligence Agency activities in' Chile
for triggering the expulsion of Peace Corps volunteers from
Peru. Church said he believes Peru felt itself threatened by the
presence of Americans, and "since they could not find the CIA
and kick it out, the military government of Peru fastened on
the Peace Corps instead." Church termed covert CIA opera-
tions "as counterproductive as they are immoral."
