Following service as a highly decorated navy carrier pilot during World War II, Mr. Bush graduated from Yale University in 1948. He founded a successful oil company in Texas, which he operated until resigning to run for Congress. Mr. Bush served two terms in Congress, from 1966 to 1970. In 1971 he was named U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, leaving that post to serve as Chairman of the Republican National Committee from January 1973 to September 1974. President Ford selected Mr. Bush as Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office in Peking, where he served until. he was recalled to become Director of Central Intelligence in January of this year. Mr. Bush is now engaged in reshaping the structure of our intelligence community to fit the times, as directed by a recent Presidential Executive Order. As President Ford said at Mr. Bush's swearing -in ceremony, "in peacetime there is no substitute for intelligence." In this spirit, Mr. Bush is moving forward in his task of leading our intelligence organizations into a new era.
