Gvishiani Jermen Gvishiani, currently Deputy Chairman, the State Committee of the USSR Council of Ministers for Science and Technology, is well known for his contributions to the advancement of scientific, technological and managerial cooperation between the Soviet Union and the Western World. Born in 1928 in the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic, USSR, Dr. Gvishiani graduated from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations and holds a doctorate from the Prague Higher School of Economics. He is author of more than 100 books and papers on philosophy, sociology and scientific management, including "Basic Principles of Scientific Management", "Sociology of Business", and "Organization and Management". Among his international responsibilities, Dr. Gvishiani serves as Co-Chairman, the Standing Commission on Scientific, Technical and Economic Cooperation between the USSR and France, and between the USSR and the Federal Republic of Germany. He is also a director of the US-USSR Trade and Economic Council and Co-Chairman of its Scientific and Technological Committee. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citicorp, he has led in the evolution of traditional banks into worldwide financial institutions, serving governments, businesses, and individual citizens. He has worked to create a world economic system that continually shifts financial resources from wherever in the world they may abound from time to time, to wherever they may be needed, to maintain the strength and health of the individual parts, and of the whole.
