Approved For Release 2008/06/26: CIA-RDP88-0107OR000200750005-1 RADIO TV REPORTS, INC. 4701 WILLARD AVENUE, CHEVY CHASE, MARYLAND 20815 656-4068 PROGRAM ABC News STATION WMAL Radio ABC Network DATE June 23, 1983 5:00 PM CITY Washington, DC Casey Never Heard of the Book NEWSCASTER: Four Reagan administration officials have responded in writing to a request from a Congressional committee for information about a Jimmy Carter campaign briefing book that turned up in the hands of the Reagan campaign back in 1980. ABC's Ann Compton has details. ANN COMPTON: The four letters from Reagan advisers who were key figures in the 1980 campaign all make disclaimers about the use of a briefing book that apparently was smuggled out of the Carter camp. White House Chief-of-Staff James Baker says he has no reason to believe they were illegally spirited to the Reagan people before the Carter-Reagan debate. Budget Director David Stockman says the bundle of pages were not marked "White House" or "Classified." CIA Director William Casey declares flatly he never heard of the book. Two of the White House advisers write that the interest now seems to them politically motivated. Ann Compton, ABC News, Chicago.
