REFERENCE (A) OJCS-4429- 75 dated 21 November 1975, same
subject.
(B) OJCS-4151-75 dated 5 November 1975, same
subject.
1. In response to the request stated in the references and
as a follow up to our various conversations on this subject, this
memorandum confirms that ngineering Staff places no cabling
restrictions on the forte coming TADS installation.
2. As a result of our brief investigation both within the
Office of Communications and with several vendors, I would suggest
that the TADS RFP request the various bidder's to consider the
use of twisted pair telephone cable as the interconnecting medium
for the componets of the TADS System. The
present
DDC utilizes standard telephone cable (TEL-CU series, multi-tpair
Superior cable). This cable has an overall shield and consists of
SO unshielded pairs of 24cvage copper wire.
3. 1 further suggest that the TADS RFP indicate a preerance
for operation at the standard T-l rate of 1.544Jos. This data rate
is becoming a standard in our present communications system in the
Washington area.
4. I have made arrang n:ents to obtain equipment on loan and
test this equipment on the DDG at a rate of 920Kbs,
has indicated this equipment .is capable of operating ateavfullr
1Mhs rate and perhaps higher. If this test is satisfactory I would
anticipate using this equipment on the DDG for those systems that
require operational data rates in excess of 4800BPS.
S. Finally I would like to suggest that we continue to discuss
TAD requirements with other components within the Office of Coyni-
unications that would be concerned with the technical and COMSEC
aspects of TADS. I am available at your convenience to arrange a
io rmreetin with appropriate oC personnel. You can reach me on red line

REFERENCE . Memo, OJCS-4151-75, same subject, dated 5 November
1975
1. As a follow-up to the requirements and request of the reverenced
memorandum (copy attached) and our several conversations, I am planning
to place no cabling restrictions on the TADS contractor. Non-shielded
plane wire, twisted or coaxial cable are, to my understanding,
acceptable to
2. If feels this above understanding should be modified,
request your response by 26 November 1975.
