=+ The members of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting
Countries are Abu Dhabi, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait,
Libya, Neutral Zone, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Tunisia. In
April 1979 Egypt was suspended from OAPEC membership. For
consistency Egyptian crude oil production will, however, continue to
be included in the OAPEC total.
b The membership of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting
Countries consists of OAPEC members (excluding Bahrain, Egypt,
Syria, and Tunisia), plus Dubayy, Ecuador, Gabon, Indonesia, Iran,
Nigeria, Sharjah, and Venezuela.

a Installed capacity, also called nameplate or design capacity,
includes all aspects of crude oil production, processing, trans-
portation, and storage. Installed capacity is generally the highest
capacity estimate.
b Maximum sustainable or operational capacity is the maximum
production rate that can be sustained for several months; it
considers the experience of operating the total system and is
generally some 90-95 percent of installed capacity. This capacity
concept does not necessarily reflect the maximum production rate
sustainable without damage to the fields.
e Available or allowable capacity reflects production ceilings
announced by individual members. Iraqi capacity is limited by
restrictions placed on exports as a result of the Iraq-Iran war and
the closure of the Iraq-Syria pipeline.
e In Sep 1973, the pre-embargo peak output, OAPEC countries
produced 20,190 b/d and OPEC countries 33,083 b/d.
d In Feb 1979, the post-embargo peak output, OAPEC countries
produced 22,207 b/d.
e In Dec 1976, the post-embargo peak output, OPEC countries
produced 34,224 b/d.

d The precise loss in sustainable capacity remains uncertain.
e Prior to Iraq-Iran war.
r Excluding share of capacity in the Neutral Zone, shown
Novarately.
g Capacity and production is shared equally between Kuwait
and Saudi Arabia.
n In Saudi Arabia, the concept of "facility," rather than
"installed" capacity, is used. Facility capacity refers to the total
installed capacity of gas-oil Novarating plants, main trunk
pipelines, and oil-load terminals; it does not include the capacity
of salt water-oil Novarators or flow lines.
