SUBJECT: Request for Circuit Upgrade - FBIS Nicosia
1. As you are already aware, FBIS and members of your staff are
coordinating circuit upgrades of the FBIS Amman and Tel Aviv circuits to
150-baud. The crystals and other hardware necessary for the higher speed
have been ordered and are expected to be available within a few weeks.
We will then contact members of your staff to 77 e a mutually
convenient activation date for both circuits.
2. Since we have a continuing interest in improving communications
at FBIS field locations wherever possible, our bureau chief in Nicosia
recently discussed circuit upgrade with the local TCU personnel. Unfortu-
nately, the TCU surfaced the upgrade proposal through its channels before
FBIS headquarters formally presented this requirement to your office. E
3. We are now in receipt of WASHINGTON 243872 of 4 February which
states the FBIS Nicosia circuit upgrade can be accommodated sometime
between mid- and late-summer of 1985. This memorandum confirms FBIS
interest in this requirement and requests your continued support in our
joint efforts to improve communication links.
