SUBJECT: Operational ERR Meeting Report
1. The Operational Engineering Review Board was held on 07 January
1988 at 1330. See Attachment A for a list of attendees. See Attachment B
for the Agenda.
2. Four new DR's were discussed. See Attachment C for a description
of these DRs. Three Walk-On DRs were reviewed for closure. They are also
included in Attachment C.
3. The 0-ERB reviewed 23 DRs In Progress. See Attachment D for a
description of those DRs. The status updates from the ERR are also
incorporated.
4. One new MR was presented. See Attachment E for a description of
the new MR and status updates for the two MRs in progress.
5. One BR was presented. See Attachment F for a description of
of the BR.
6. One new RFC was presented. See Attachment G for a description of
the RFC and status updates for the 10 RFCs in progress.
7. Open Discussion included the following:
a. SES/GE presented a new form entitled "CM REQUEST FORM".
The primary purpose of this new form is to enable SES/GE to
ensure that all user requests for CM status information are met
in a uniformed and timely manner. Forms will be available in
SES/GE office. See Attachment H.
b. B. Hunter and E. Brewer commented on the fact that VAX still
has several outstanding problems. A writeup of the status will be
given to EBB members for review. There will be a freeze on all
Commo software at a date to be determined by FBIS and
LEC/Plainfield. Selected outstanding DRs pertaining to the VAX
problems will be sent back to Plainfield, N. J. for correction.
This is in conjunction with the new message format build.
The next Operational ERB is scheduled for Thursday, 14 January at
8.

Problem Description:
Item with file #39798c(attach) was rec. with 2 cpys of the same item (0W310843)
in the file. The 1st cpy had various format lines on the top, everything from
the unclass line to the srcline was run together and no gentags.
Analysis:
The 2nd cpy had some format lines, but everything else in the Autodin-RTA
version was received from the VAX as normal, including gentags; however, the
copy received by the Daily Report still had the PLA info above the unclas line
normally stripped by the

batcher. The file rec. by the wire started with the 1st cpy of the item at the
unclass line (with everything on down to the srcline run tog. The batcher
apparently stripped off the info above the unclass line like it was suppose to.

A line condition is occurring that inhibits messages from going out because the
AUTODIN line has been interrupted and the condition is not detacted by the
AUTODIN driver software. The operators indications are the line is available
for transmission.

normally.

Problem Description:
The TELEX line modem allowed a dial in/log on to occur through the TELEX phone
line.
Analysis:
A logon occurrance was obscured during TELEX testing. Testing showed an outside
call to the TELEX line would allow a connect to the VAX on_line system. If the
caller was able to login with a password, full access was allowed.
Corrective Action:
The Hayes MODEM in the Comm closet was configured with switch 5 set to no Auto
answer. This allowed an incoming call to ring but no answer to occur.

A trend article of 35 pages would not process thorugh outgoing validation
because of the abnormal length.The process would terminate due to an out of
range problem associated with the number of takes. The MAX_TAKES parameter was
set for 10 takes anf when
the 11th was attempted the error was detected.
Description of Change:
the parameter MAX_TAKES was changed from 10 to 40 as a best guess estimate to
accomodate the longer trend items. The new outgoing validation process was
installed and the trend article was transmitted in 16 takes.

Operator Terminal. In addition, a print capability needs to be provided for hard
