Problem Description:
WSS sends a copy of all WSS outgoing items to Daily Rpt Queues for reading in
purposed. DRD editors can see which items were run on the Wire and what editing
occurred. On Mon. 1 Feb, a DR editor was reading a Wire Service item (FBIS 086
of Sat. 30 Jan
Analysis:
(attached). Finished with reading the item, the DRD editor attempted to "Spike"
it per SOP. To spike the DRD editor must hit SHIFT-SUPERSHIFT-SEND. This
editor mistakenly hit either SHIFT or SUPERSHIFT(not both) and the SEND key.
Corrective Action:
Because the "TO:" field in WSS messages retain the XMIT.COM designation, the DRD
editor ended up transmitting the 2-day old message to all wire subscribers
exactly as it was sent on the Saturday before. (See attachment for further

Occasionally a msg will het hung in PVALOUT and we believe that the outgoing
Auytodin line gets hung at the same time and it has to be cleared. The msg
still won't go out until it is found in unchkpt and requeued and sent back to
Pvalout.
Analysis:
Not 100% sure that one of the autodin lines does hangup each time this occurs.
We are aware of this problem only when Wire does not receive a comeback copy and
alerts us to this problem or we check on one of the msgs that did not go out.

When there are other messages in alert queue and you accidently hit remove key,
it will delete next msg in alert queue and it will not be handled till it is
caught by checking msg log. Remove key should not function when calling up next
alert msg.
Description of Change:
The intent of the key is to be used to acknowledge informational alerts like
Incorrect Mailbox Entry, Admin Check Number Out of Sequence, and One-up Number
Out of Sequence. If the Operator inadvertently presses the Remove Key, the next
Alert is removed
from the Active Alert List and is considered completed by the sys. This can
occur without the Oper. noticing the accidental Keystroke. Change the Remove Key
function to include a verify statmt to prevent accidental removal of a spilled

The ATEX does a system intensive exchange to mark incoming field traffic with a
special character to identify the UNCLAS line so that the communications header
can be stripped. This would be easy and much less system intensive to do on the
VAX.
This should be completed soon to minimize VAX impact because there are many
other VAX changes scheduled for early this year (e.g., DTS link, new message
?format).
