T-72 M1986/1 Identification Features
COMMENT: The T-72 41986/1, first seen in the November 1986 Moscow Parade, has a
turret distinctly different from previously observed T-72 series tanks. The
turret has a cavity on either side of the gun tube which has been filled with an
unknown material. The slight increase.in turret size over the T-72.M1981/3
suggests that an increase in armor-protection has been achieved. The grenade
launchers have also been relocated from the turret front to the turret left,
providing a distinct indentification feature..
