Dear Gordon,
3 August 1985
I hate to do this but I have to ask you to
excuse me from participation in the Center's
program in Grand Rapids in November. Thank
goodness it's not too late to bow out. I had
not realized that there would be heavy foreign
attendance but I received this note from our
Public Affairs Director. I attach a copy so you
will understand and ask you to destroy it when
you have read it.
Best regards.
Yours,
illiam J. Case

Thank you for your call today accepting the Center's invitation to
participate in the Center's 16th Annual Leadership Conference. As I
STAT advised this is convening at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel
in Grand Rapids, Michigan the weekend of November 1-3, 1985, with
President Ford as the primary host.
The theme "Command Decision And The Presidency" is taken from the
volume by that name. You may recall President Ford had written the
Foreword for it and you, yourself wrote a generous commentary for the
book jacket.
Bill, we hope you will be with us as much as your busy schedule
permits, beginning with the Friday evening, November 1st reception and
dinner commencing at 6:30 p.m. We would like you to join President Ford
on the dais that evening. Should your schedule permit we would like to
have you address the conference the following evening, Saturday, November 2nd,
again following a reception and dinner commencing at 6:30 p.m.
In the interim, kindly send us your biographical sketch and photograph,
the latter preferably 8x10. For you support for the Center and for the
conference we are most grateful, believe me. Best wishes to you and to
your family.
Sincerely yours,
