SUBJECT : Proposal for Recognition of
Allen W. Dulles at Headquarters
1. Comments on the rhrpe proposals for recognition of
Allen W. Dulles at the Headquarters building submitted to
some 28 current staff who formerly were close working asso-
ciates of Mr. Dulles are now largely in hand. The tally is:
a plaque - 14 votes; a bust - 6 votes; a sculpture - 3 votes;
no recognition - 2 votes. The simple inscription, "Under
whose guidance this building was erected," or some variant
of it, received 10 votes followed by 5 votes for no inscrip-
tion. Individual comment-3 offered by the "voters" provide
an interesting and useful variety of observations which are
available if you care to : ?eview them.
2. In light of thes-a comments the FAC recommends that:
a. A bas relief plaque of Mr. Dulles's head be
adopted, using Heinz Warn3ke as artist.
b. The inscription, in addition to name and dates
of office, read: "This Headquarters was his concept and
under his guidance was built."
c. The plaque be placed on the right wall of the
main entrance way opposite the quotation from John.
d. The Chief, Logistics Services Division, OL,
be authorized funds not to exceed $2,000 to implement this
plan with the advice and assistance of the FAC.
a. The Director tell Allen of our plans and of STATINTL
Warneke's desire for several "Sittings" with him this fall.
