P. 0. Box 463 Washington 4, D. C. rest an RI:TGW:jep Twice in the past we have sought carrier reaction to putting our contract term on a calendar year basis rather than having it run from November 1 to October 31. Each time a majority of carriers reacted'favorably. A few carriers said they would anticipate some inconvenience if the change were made. We have since had requests from many carriers - including one or two who originally did not favor the change - to put the contract term on a calendar year basis. We see many real advantages for the very large majority of carriers in doing this. These advantages far outweigh the few inconveniences one or two plans might find, We have concluded, therefore, that in any case the next contract term, which normally would end October 31,_ 1966, will run through December 31, 1966, so as to put us on a.calendar year basis. However, we do not have to wait this long to realize the advantages of a contract which is coextensive with the calendar year. We can simply now amend our current contract to run for an additional two months to December 31, 1965. Then our next contract term would run from January 1 to December 31, 1966, With this in mind, I am asking each carrier which participates in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program to advise me if it sees any serious obstacles to our proposing and the carrier accepting an amendment of our current contract which would extend its term to December 31, 1965. Your prompt reply will. be appreciated. Sincerely yours, Andrew E.
