Dear hlr. Casey:
On behalf of the Cumberland School of Law, we are pleased to invite you
to participate in our Cordell Hull Speakers Forum. The Speakers Forum has
a national reputation for excellence in coordinating a series of speakers prob-
ing the issues of the day. Last year, the. Forum had the Y;anor of hosting Vice
President George Bush, independent presidential candidate John Anderson, Con-.
gressman Henry Hyde and former Chicago Mayor Jane Byrne.
Our program includes a forty-minute address with a ten-minute question
anti answer session followed by a luncheon in honor of our ;uest. The Speakers
Forum will be happy to furnish air and ground transportation. Our budget is
such that we cannot offer an honorarium..
The Speakers Forum !gas developed an excellent rapport w~.th the local press
over the years which has resulted in full coverage of our year-long series.
Coverage of our press conferences and speeches includes local affiliates of
AP~C, NBC,. Cab1_e News A'etwork, United Press .International, Associated. Press,
Newhouse News Service, Scripps Howard News Service and National Public Radio.
Our fall series is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays
in September, October, and November. All students have a fixed free hour at
this tune designed for speeches and seminars. If our fall series is incon-
venient, we request that you consider a possible spring address.
The Cumberland School of I,aw at Samford University takes great pride in
all its activities. In the 1983-84 academic year, Cumberland won the American
College of 'T'rial Lawyers, Emil Gumpert Award for Excellence in the teaching
of. Trial Aci~?ocacy which includes a $1.0,000 grant. This }'ear our National Mock
'Tri_al Team c?:on first and third place in the National :Mock Trial Competition
held in Houston. This competition eras sponsored by the American College of
Trial Lawyers and the American Bar Association. The Cordell Hu11 Speakers
