McMahon Deputy Director for Central Intelligence FROM: George V. Lauder Director of Public Affairs SUBJECT: Trip to Boston, 27-28 November 1984 1. The following is a summary of your meeting with the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and The Boston Committee on Foreign Relations. Attached is your itinerary and a list of contacts and phone numbers. 2. Breakfast Meeting with South Shore Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors 2 November : On Wednesday morning, 28 November, from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m., you will attend a coffee and Danish breakfast and a round table off-the-record discussion with members of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. Board of Directors. The Government Affairs Manager for the Chamber Mr. Richard C. Pierce will meet you at the entrance of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce Building, 36 Miller Stile Road, at 8:15 a.m. (For map see opposite). He will escort you to an anteroom for coffee before taking you to the Board room at 8:30 a.m. The' President Mr. John Doody of Arthur L. Doody Insurance Agency will introduce you. The suggested format for your presentation is 20 minutes of remarks and 20 minutes of Questions and Answers. You will be seated at the Board table with Mr. Doody on your right and the Executive Vice President of the Chamber Mr. Ronald E. Zooleck on your left. Since it is a small group, a microphone will not be necessary. The audience of approximately 36 are leading business men and women in the area. (See Board of Directors list opposite). Neither members of the media nor foreign nationals will be present. Mr. James Asher, owner of the South Shore Broadcasting-WJDA and WESX, will attend. Since the organization understands that this is an off-the-record meeting, Mr. Asher's affiliation should not be a problem. As the meeting is a small gathering, your remarks will not be taped unless you instruct us to request it. (See annual report opposite). Its primary mission is to promote economic development in the.South Shore Massachusetts area. The usual format is a luncheon of 500 members with full scale media coverage. Given the nature of the Agency, the smal-ler, off-the-record format was suggested for your visit with them. Both President Reagan and Vice President Bush spoke to the group during the 1980 campaign and drew record crowds. More recently, NASA Chief James Beggs, Post Master General William F. Bolger, and former Deputy Secretary of State Elliot Richardson have spoken to them. IRS Commissioner Roscoe Egger will be their guest speaker on 30 November. 3. Dinner Meeting with the Boston Committee on Foreign Relations (28 Novem er : You wil have an of -t e-record dinner meeting wit t e Boston om ti tee on Foreign Relations on Wednesday, 28 November, from 5:15 - 8:30 p.m. Former Chairman of the Boston Committee on Foreign Relations Richard A. Wiley of The First National Bank of Boston and Secretary and Vice-Chairman of the Committee Gary A. Spiess will meet you at 5:15 p.m. at the main entrance of the Curtis-Saval International Center, 22 Batterymarch Street, Boston. (See biographies opposite.) They will escort you to the Rotunda Room for the reception and the evenings activities. You will address the group from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. Mr. Wiley will introduce you and a microphone and podium will be available. Dinner will follow and at approximately 7:30 p.m. you are requested to take Questions and Answers until 8:30 p.m. adjournment. Chairman of the Executive Committee Richard J. Epstein and owner of Jan Research Associates will be seated on your right, Mr. Wiley will be on your left, and Mr. Spiess will also be at your table.
