Dear
Your understanding of the visit by you and your students to the
Central Intelligence Agency on 19 April is in line with my own. I have
been able to secure the Agency's senior briefing officer to introduce
your group to the mission and organization of the Agency and the Assistant
National Intelligence Officer for Latin America will discuss Cuba's foreign
relations. I regret that I was unable to work in a tour of our operations
center but security simply would not allow uncleared individuals to visit
the center. In all honesty, unless one held a security clearance, a tour
of the operations center would be of little value anyway.
We shall expect you to arrive shortly before 10:00 a.m. by private
vehicle at the CIA entrance off Route 123. As you drive west on Memorial
Parkway, exit onto Route 123 south and watch for the CIA entrance on your
right. After checking in at the guard post, please drive on to the main
entrance of the building where another guard will tell you where to park.
I would hope to meet you on the steps to Headquarters Building.
I am looking forward to greeting you and your students on 19 April
and I trust your visit with us will be both informative and pleasant.
Sincerely yours,
Coordinator for Academic airs

I am writing in reference to the scheduled April 19, 1982
visit by the Colgate University History Department Study Group to the
Central Intelligence Agency. It is my understanding that we will arrive
at 10 AM for a two hour briefing and, if at all possible, tour of the
operations center. The briefing will consist of two parts: 1) an intro-
duction to the CIA -- its mission, its relation to policy making, etc.,
and 2) a substantive discussion of current American relations with Cuba
and the Caribbean area. The students will have read Robert Kennedy's
Thirteen Days on the Cuban missle crisis before their visit and will be
discussing that book in their seminar on the afternoon of the 19th. A
perspective on how relations have developed since that difficult period
and where they stand today would be of great interest to the students.
As mentioned previously, the group numbers twelve Colgate juniors
and seniors and one faculty member. We expect to arrive by private cars
from Memorial Parkway and would appreciate instructions on how to reach
the entrance you would like us to report to.
Cordially,
