I talked with Roger Pitkin, DOD, today concerning the upcoming hearings at the Senate Armed Services Committee on use of the polygraph. Those hearing, riginall scheduled for 1 February, have been postponed undetermined date during the last week of February or the first week in March. The first 2. There will be two days of hearings. session will concentrate technical matters. The Chief on the NSA's Polygraph Division,~ will testify w do a show the technical aspects of the po Y9 ? and tell, including an actual demonstration of-a machine. the Two witnesses who were vinvolved in present polygraph commissioned by the technical/scientificworkide~e second demonstate that deal polygraph does with policy issues. DOD envisages the following: (a) An FBI witness to discuss the increasing CI threat; (b) CIA and NSA to testify on their respective polygraph programs, giving an evaluation and emphasizing the polygraph's utility. General Faurer is the proposed NSA witness, and Pitkin suggests that we also have a senior official testify for the CIA; and (c) General Stilwell, or possibly Deputy Secretary of Defense Will Taft, will testify on the DOD's proposed polygraph program. 3.
