meteorological satellite systems to the private sector.

Mr. PRESSLER introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to
the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation
A BILL
Relating to the transfer of civil land remote sensing space
satellite systems and meteorological satellite systems to the
private sector.
1 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-
2 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
3 That, notwithstanding section 201 of the National Aeronau-
4 tics and Space Administration Authorization Act of 1983, the
5 Secretary of Commerce shall not transfer the ownership or
6 management of any civil land remote sensing space satellite
7 system and associated ground system equipment or meteoro-
8 logical satellite system and associated ground system equip-
9 ment unless, in addition to any other requirement of such
10 law-

1 (1) the Secretary of Commerce or his designee
2 has presented, in writing, to the Speaker of the House
3 of Representatives and the President of the Senate,
4 and to the Committee on Science and Technology of
5 the House of Representatives and the Committee on
6 Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate,
7 a comprehensive plan for the proposed transfer; and
8 (2) the Congress thereafter approves such transfer
9 by law.
