Dear Governor Adams:
This is to acknowledge a list of names and certain allegations
which your office received from the Hoover Commission and which you
turned over to this Agency on 2 June 1955. (Tab A)
This list appears to be similar to a list of names received
from Senator McCarthy on 17 March 1953 (Tab B), and a list received
from the Clark Committee on 25 March 1955 (Tab C). Some of these names
also appeared in a list received by this Agency from the Federal Bureau
of Investigation on 13 May 1955 (page 3, paragraph h), which had in turn
received the list from General Clark. The list of 2 June 1955 (Tab A)
included, in part, definite allegations, and it is noted that the allega-
tions concern security type information in five instances, allegations
of "administrative conduct" in six instances, and eight names without
any allegations or other descriptive data.

security or integrity, of an employee of this Agency is challenged.
The record'in this regard is as follows:
a. On 17 March 1953 I received an informal list (Tab B)
from Senator McCarthy. Six individuals named on this list were
not employees of CIA.
Action taken: Security investigation and repearch
revealed no substance to the allegations pertaining to
employees of this Agency. Summary of the-results of
the investigation are attached as Tab D.

f. On 21-March-1955.. I wrote to Senator John L. McClellan
calling his attention to my previous correspondence with Senator
McCarthy, and requesting that any allegations concerning CIA
contained in the files of the Permanent Sub-Committee on Investiga-
tions be forwarded in order that. appropriate investigation could
be conducted. My letter of 21 Mai t&--1955 and Senator McClellan's
reply thereto are attached as Tab H.
g. On 25 March 1955, I received a list of names from
General Christiansen of the Clark Committee. This list did not
contain any allegations. (Tab C)
Action taken: On 30 March 1955 General Christiansen
was furnished by memorandum a summary of information
from Agency files pertaining to the individuals named
on the list. (Tab I)
h. On 12 May 1955, the Federal Bureau of Investigation re-
ceived from General Clark a list of names with a request that an
FBI investigation be made on each individual. A copy of this list
was made available to this Agency.
Action taken: This Agency took -imaedi & e- etepa ire-filly
cooperate the Federal Bureau of Investigation)in
whatever investigation the Bureau might conduct, even
though no allegations were made to the FBI against the
individuals named in this list. The FBI specifically
requested General Clark to make available any allegations
in order that the FBI might be justified in undertaking
investigative action. Inasmuch as no such allegations
were furnished, the Federal Bureau of Investi~ation4n-
formed General Clark of the technical difficulties involved,
after which General Clark withdr" his request.

Attached hereto as Tab J is a summary of the current information
in CIA files: concerning each employee in the list of 2 June 1955 (Tab A).
It will be noted that certain of these persons have never been employed by
this Agency, and others so named have previously left our employment.
I am forwarding a copy of this entire memorandum to the Attorney
General and to the Federal Bureau of Investigation with a request thaItLEGIB
investigative action be taken in any case where the nature of the allegation

warrants investigative action under the provisions of Executive Order
10450. The following employees are under current investigation by
this Agency, and their cases are in process of being turned over to
the Federal Bureau of Investigation together with investigative results
of this Agency for whatever action is appropriate:

I will inform your office, the Attorney General, and the Federal
Bureau of Investigation of the final results in each case where it has
been determined that investigative and other procedures under Executive
Order 10450 are deemed necessary. I;also specifically vt a t.et there

on any employee of this Agency which may exist or which may'come to YQUAL_
attention in the future.
