CIA INTERNAL USE ONLY Approved For Releases-2002/05/09 : CIA-RDP86B00269R0001QQ130094-3 28 June 1955 Since the Hoover Commission Press Release for Wednesday morning papers will break on the radio at 7:00 P.M. 4 Eastern Daylight Saving Time tonight, you might wish to have a small group meet with you in the Conference Room this after- noon at a time agreeable to you. If such be your decision, I recommend that the following be invited: John Scali, Associated Press Don Gonzales, United Press Howard Handleman, INS Charles Lucey, Scripps-Howard Newspapers Jim Roper, Washington Star Murrey Marder, Washington Post Ev Clark, Washington Daily News Bill Lawrence, New York Times Walter Kerr, New York Herald Tribune Albert Clark, Wall Street Journal Joe Harsch, Christian Science Monitor Frederic Collins, Providence Journal Mark Watson, Baltimore Sun Ernest Lindley, Newsweek James Truitt, Time David Lawrence, U. S. News & World Report Richard Harkness, NBC Ted Koop, CBS Dick Rendell, ABC Fulton Lewis, Mutual Network -Jerry Green, New York Daily News Martin Hayden, Detroit News and NANA %XT In asking them to come I would tell them the fact of the meeting is confi- dential and nothing learned by them is for attribution to the DCI or to CIA or to any intelligence source. Don Gonzales of UP has already asked if he could see you today. The UP believes the criticism of CIA to be "very severest even though a great deal of the criticism is by implication. Felix Cotton of INS has done their early wire story. The INS viewpoint which they plan to feature, he said, is the fact that McCarthy was wrong and you were right regarding subversives within the CIA. I believe there wouldn't be time for Bill Lawrence to get together with his group for dinner although I have not checked this with him, and on account of the 7:00 o'clock radio break tonight, I would recommend that if possible you meet this group, with some necessary substitutions, not later than 5:00 o'clock this afternoon and earlier if at all practicable. 25X1A Approved For Release 20Q2/05/094: !CI iF P4 400269R000100130094-3
