SUBJECT: Space for CAMS Computer Center
1. The Office of Data Processing has informed the
Office of Logistics of the need to provide a dedicated
computer center for CAMS by the late summer of 1979.
The feasibility of constructing the'center in Headquarters
is being studied by Real Estate and Construction Division
and Logistics Services Division. However, the critical
nature of the space shortage at Headquarters and the
Presidential moratorium on acquisition of additional
space in the metropolitan area make consideration of
locations outside Headquarters in facilities controlled
by the Agency most compelling. To that end members of
my staff made a preliminary tour of to in- STATINTL
vestigate possibilities there.
2. During their tour, they observed numerous work
stations were vacant or appeared to be underutilized;
and one area, a former computer room of 5,000 sq. ft.
equipped with pedestal flooring, was being vacated for
conversion to additional Photo Interpreter (PI) office
space.
3. In view of the foregoin I would a reciate
your review of the situation at o determine:STATINTI
a. The feasibility of providing space
there for CAMS, which is ultimately related
to NPIC; and,
b. The relative priority of the new CAMS
computer center versus the need for additional
PI work stations for the DIA and U.S. Army ele-
ments.

you, if desired, by verifying adequacy of utilities
support and judging the impact of a collocation of CAMS
with NPIC on pending space moves already planned at
