Approved For Release 2000/08/10 : CIA-RDP86-01019R00020003QQ10-0 3 APR 1978 MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Data Processing James H a McDonald Director of Loc'istics SUBJECT : Project CAMS REFERENCE: Memo dtd 31 March 1c 79 to n/L fry C/R V7P/OL, same subject (OL A 1297) 1. This memorandum is to request planning information relative to Project CAMS as well as related impart on availa- ble utility resources in the (Headquarters Building. The attached referent identifies several requirements and dis- cusses informal planning information being looker! at by our respective facilities personnel. 2. It would be most useful if it could be ,I-cided whether we can realistically put CAMS outside of the Headquarters Building. and. if so, what the overall require- ments would be. If there is a possibility that the G C47 interim CAMS might ultimately become final C.01S with a corresponding impact on the utility situation in that area, then we must ascertain the impact of that action viewed from a total and comprehensive analysis of all c'xstomer demands on the utilities available in the south half of the building. 3. Please communicate your views on the shave to me. James V. Mcfonal 3. Briefly stated there was to be: a. An inplace upgrade of CAMS in CC47 (Interim CAMS) by March 1978 b. A separate 6,500 sq. ft. facility with full UPS power (not essential to be in Headquarters) (Final CAMS) by November 1079. 2. Subsequently on 23 August 1977, the D/O P wrote to the D/L regarding an overall sunsry of space and utility requirements which include CAMS. A response to the D/OD was sent on 12 October 1977, which described the limitations on electrical power, space availability, and our ability to respond to CAMS' requirements. On 25 October 1977, representatives of OL met with 0DP personnel. Discussed during this meeting were the continuing efforts directed towards the acquisition of suf- ficient external leased space to permit the relocation of personnel from Headquarters and subsequent allocation of the space thus vacated to support CAMS and the GCO3I13116 expansion. In light f the Presidential mot alternate site options lease options) were to be evaluate 3. No definitive word has yet been received from ODP since a meeting at on 9 November regarding final CAMS. This leaves n a dilemma as to which course of action to pursue. Compounding this still further, workinz conversations with Facilities Branch, ODP, personnel on 6 March 1978 indicate a substantial amount of existing equip- ment shifting between CCO3 and GC47, which coupled with new central processing units scheduled for GC47, have created a power situation that we cannot support using available power sources. In addition, other components are making demands for the limited utilities resources available on the south side of the building. 5. As part of interim CAMS, limited amounts of 400 Rz power could he supplied by September 1978 using the Teledyne converters presently located in B Vault; however, this Office could not have a full 400 Hz UPS system installed to serve the computer equipment loads now projected for installation in GC47 by March 1979. In addition, should equipment be installed per the 6 March 1978 meeting between HER and OPP, t!Ne 61 7)z distribution system serving GC47 would also be inadequate by August 1978. 6, In order that RECD may adequately plan to meet OTM utilities requirements, it is necessary that future needs be formally identified so that the survey and design process may commence. From this a time table showiaa * the necessary utilities modifications can he derived with estimated costs projected. This response should include requirements for both CA1S and the Ruffing Center Expansion.
