Abstract: Unsubstituted and ck-alkylated O-aldeliydophospho-
nates (1) may be obtained by hydrolysis of ~-alkoxyvinyl- and~-alko.'V-Cz -
alkylvinylphosphonic acid es-l",-ers.with concentrated hydrochloric acid.
The products are colorless or slightly yellow liquids which can be
vacuum.-distilled with sli,,,fht tarringi they give a qualitative react-lon
with fuchsin-sulfurous acid. (I) reacts priergetically.with sodium d-;-
Cyclohexylphosphite,forming sodiumdialkyl-dicyclohexyl-t)-alkyloxyethyl-
enediphosphonate. To obtain (1), 3.6 g of concentrated *hG1 is added
31 9 of diethylester of ethoxyviwjlphosphonic acid, heated fof 30

Abstract: This Author's Certificate introduces: 1. A method of
synthesizing monoalkyl ethers of arylphosphonous acid by inter-
acting ary1dichlorophoaphine with hydroxyl-containing cr.,nipounds
with subsequent isoLation of the goal product by conventional
Aethods. As a distinguishing feature of the patent, the process
.~is simplified and a more extensive raw material base is provided
imoLar mixture of higher and lower alcohoLscr a
by using an.equ
water-alcohol mixture as the hydroxyl-contaiiiing compounds. 2.
The method described in (1) is distinguished by the fact that
the process is carried out in an.organic:solvent such as benzene.

"Study of the Zirconium and Haluiun Hydroxyperchlorates by Keano of IR-
spectroscopy
Moscow, Zhurnal Neorganicheskoy Khimii, Vol 16, No 3, Mar 71, pp 666-670
Abstract: Infrared spectra were obtained on the crystal hydrates of zirconium
and hafnium hydroxyperchlorates containing varying number of water molecules,
on deuterated zirconium crystal hydraLe and.on the compound with a formula
Zro(011)CIOCH 0. The spectra of corresponding compounds "hibited similari-
ties in the 2sorption bands with an intensive complex band at 1100 cm7l and
another one of medium intensity at 620-630 cm-1, both being asal.gaed to the
valence and deformation vibrationu Of C104-,. Tito spectra of ccmpounds coa-
taining 6 or 8 water molecules indicate absence of the coordination of the
perchlorate ion. Spectra of Hfo(Clo 3H2O, Zr0(C104)2*2H20, and ZrO(OH)-
C104*H20 exhibited definite changes tn15icating coordination Of Lhe C104- ion
with metal cation. No bands were found characteristic of -the Mo:0 group.

"Telescope for Recording Low-Energy Protons Against an Intense Beta Background"
Moscow, Pribory i Tekhnika Eksperimenta, No 5, 1972, pp 28-30
Abstract: A study was made of the problem of lowering the sensitivity of a
telescope system to electrons in order to make,it possible to record protons
with E less than 1.0 megaelectron volts. A telescope is described which com-
prises 2 planar proportional counters and a semiconductor detector designed for
spectrometric analysis of low-energy-proton~s (6.5-6.0 megaelectron volts) in the
presence of intense a and y radiation backgrounds. Utilization of compari-
sons of the proportional counters in the control channel
essentially reduces
the O-background of the semiconductor detector by comparison with the case
where only one counter is used for the.control., With variation of the thresh-
old in the control channel the intensity of the spectrum varies uniformly in
accordance with the hypothesis of independent formation of the spectra in the
two counters. The introduction of a 34 kiloelectron volt threshold in the
control channel leads to a tttenty~fold reduction in intensity of the count
with respect to the entire spectrum-of the first counter.

tions and substrates of an integrated transistor on the pass band of the
high frequency active elements.. It is demonstrated that the capacitance of
the emitter junction and also the capacitance of the substrate must be cal-
culated by the relation for sharp junctions. It is recommended~that transis-

wide band integrated amplifiers or dielectric insulation of the components

Translation: This Puthor's Certificate introduces a method of making inte-
grated circuits including the operations of producing a heavily doped N+
silicon layer with conductivity type opposite to that of the initial ma-
terial followed by epitaxial deposition of a high-resistancelayer of sili-
con of the same conductivity type as the:heavily doped layer.directly on
the surface of the heavily doped layer. As a distinguishing feature of the
patent,-the.packing density of the, integrated circuits.on the plate is in-
creased, and the electrical and operational characteristics of the inte-
grated circuits are improved by creating the N+ layer on the surface of
con, after which the depressions are
depressions selectively etched in P-sili
epitaxially filled with H-sillcon in the presence of silicon oxide on the
~P-allicon surface.

Abstract: To prevent and eradicate infectious diseases, sanitary epidemiologi-
cal stations in rural areas perform vaccinations, rumbacteriological tests,
check the purity cf food articles, enforce sanitary regulations in indoor and
outdoor facilities, and supervise transportation, storage, and application of
pesticides. To keep up with progress, physicians take advanced courses at
medical institutes in the Chuvash ASSR and in other republics. Each physician
is assigned a medical journal on which he makes periodic reports at conferences.
Once every 3 months, the paramedical personnel have study session for which
physicians prepare lectures on new facts, theories, methods, and their prac-
tical application. New, promising approaches are immediately tested and, if
found suitable for the ---huvash ASSR, they are inCOrDorat-ed as new standard
procedures. Iflien enough interesting material on local. conditions has ac-

"Formation of a Food-Obtaining Reflex to a Chain Stimulus in the Dolphin and
Some of Its Behavioral Characteristics"~
Moscow, Zhurnal Vysshey Nervnoy Deyatel'nosti, No 4, 1971, PP 700-7o4
Abstract: Report on the dynamics of formation of a conditioned reflex to a
chain acoustic stimulus (3 tones each sounded for 2 see) in an unrestrained
adult female Black Sea dolphin (T-ursiops' truncatus libnt). At the signal the
animal swam to a lever and was immediately rewarded with a fish if it pressed
the lever correctly. The reflex was formed to the complex stimulus as
th
quickly as to a similar simple reflex ancl the process was approximately t e
same as in other higher animals. The location of the dolphin at the time the
stimulus was presented and especially the position that it took under the
lever served as unique signals that had-an effect on the aninal's conditicned
activity. Experiments were performed with another dolphin to study the
reciprocal influence of food and play reactions, competitive relations, and
capacity for imitation.

growing E. coli, Proteus, Salmonella, Stapbylococci and some other microbes
but, not Fasteurella. multocida serotypes A, B, C, D, and E. Consequently this
medium is a useful means of differentiating Pasteurella from morphologically
similar microorganisms. P. multocida forms Df 1.1, and other shaped colonies,
and stability of colonies vary with the composition and properties of the culture
medium used. The type of medium also affects qualitatively and quantitatively
the biochemical properties of P. multocida. Indicator nedia at DH 7.1-7.2 are
required to study the enzymatic properties of this microbe qualitatively,
Quantitative changes az)pear on indicator media at pH 7.M.0. Ordinary beef-

there are data concerning the possibility of formtion of plugs in Ceratophyl-

mechanism of inducers is basic, whereas the alimentary mechanism is only of

migration and repopulation of colony-formingstem. cells (CFC) when a portion
of bone marrow in nice is screened during x-ray irradiation. During the first

58-60%, on the 14th dayt it increased to 124%1 in 2`1-30 ClAysp it became nor-

to emigration of stem calls into the blood stream, az4 that ra-pid repopula-
tion of hemopoietic tissue is related to CFa emigration and circulation.
Another study showed that all colonies in i=-ddlated tissue were formed by
stem cells migrating from screened bone ma=ow. Using this data as the

It was found that the number of colonies.increasas lin6arly in relation to

rate of CFC migration remains intense for at least 24 hours. When compaxed

Abstract: During the past 15-20 yrs a considerable amount of research has
been done on the effects of irradiation on immunity. This research was done
principally an the level of changes in the immunity of the entire organism;
relatively few studies have beea concerned with quantitativO aspects of the
action of radiation on immunocompe tent calls. For a number of years, sys-
tematic research has been conducted at the authors' laboratory oil the effects
of sublethal irradiation of mice with gamma-rays upon the dynamics of changes
in cells of the lymph system. In this research quantitative estimates were

lymphocytes, immunocomipetent precursors, tstem liemopoiatic cells, and anti-
body-forming cells. This work is reviewed. The resLiltr, shotqed that changes

Specifically, disturbance in the cooperation between lymphoid cells and

Leningrad, Zhurnal. (Ybshchey Khilri-i, Vol 429(1M), Vyp 4, 1972., PP 762-y65
Abstract: The size of the equilibrium constant and the aize of the bathochrome
shift were studied for the reaction of various mono- substituted chloro-, bromo-,
and iodophenols and the di-, tri-, tetra-., and pentachlorophenols vith tributyl
phosphate (TBP) and trioctylphosphenoxide (TOPP). Me value of the equilibrium
constant for the reaction of pheno's with TCPP was larger than with TEF; however
- L
the equilibrium constants for both of the abovo clatisco ol" reactionn were signif-
icantly larger than previously reported values for the remetion of such phenols
with ketones, amides, and sulfoxides. The Value Of the equi.Ubrium constant
for the title reaction due to hydrogon boiid;Wg in related to tbxec factors:
1) the Presence of intramolecular hydrogen bonding in the studied Dhenols; 2) the
acidity of the phenol; and 3) the basicity of the acceptor (in this case the TBP
and TOPP).

The absorption c-pectruin of antife
rromagnetic, CsWW3 is:studied in detaii in tho
Cgroup band region of the W1n2 ion shifted from. the i0ersion center. The temperature
was varied between 1.2 and 60* K and the: external magnetic field between 0 and 2.5 k0c.
Identification of the spectrurn is perforined within the framework of group theory
analysis. It is shown that CsMnr-3 is an unusual crystal among antiferromagnetie sub-
stances. For the Mn2 ion in it puro excitort transitions are allowed in the electric dipole
approximation. The main. properties of pure exciton ind exelton-magnon absorption
hands are obtained in accoriance with tho~Lotidon scherne V-). 411ot* and (tcoldo magnon
satellites and also two-magnon batellites~,ol ptu-e exciton absorption b.-inds are detectod
in tho absorption spectrum and investigated. The maxiinal magnon frequency at the
boundary of the Brillouin 26ne is.determined, A.- == 38 cm-1. The problem of distortiun
-of this quantity due to exe lfton= magnon, interaction in. processes induced by excitation
of one or two magnons together, with the exciton.is discussed.

Abstract: A study was made of the temperature dependence of the solubility
of lithium, nickel, and iuagnesium ferrites.in the solvent PbO-B203- The
solubility data were obtained by determining the solurion saturation temper-
ature on the basis of growth -- the diss'olution of seods fmm the crystal-
